MAD ABOUT MUSIC WEEKEND 11–12 JUNE

Seechange 2016 presents an illuminating musical experience over the festival’s final weekend.

“Mad about Music” weekend will open Friday night 10 June with ‘Benji and the Saltwater Sound System’ who get together with the horn section from ‘Southerly Change’ days to light up the hall for a long weekend festival dance.
Saturday night will feature a Premiere Performance by the ‘Miriam Lieberman Trio’, with a seamless blend of African blues and folk and Miriam’s unmistakable voice. A concert that will warm your heart. Kerry, Tracey and Vanessa as ‘In the Mix’ are a perfect match and will settle you for the night’s entertainment.
On Sunday, for the first time, Miriam’s Trio will perform with the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra. Music is arranged by Miriam’s Trio with Jacob Antonio, the orchestra’s musical director.  A unique experience for performers and the audience alike; who knows where this may lead.
The final concert by ‘The Glorious MUDSingers’ will raise the roof with their bluesy soulful four-part harmonies.
A festival isn’t a festival without once in a life time workshops. There will a chance to sing with Miriam, dance with Suzi and Peg, tongue block with local legend blues harpist Steve Russonello, or bring your favourite instrument and jam with Hamish’s Tribal Funk Orchestra.

77. BENJI AND SSS FRIDAY NIGHT FUSE

Huskisson Community Hall, 17 Dent St Huskisson
Fri 10 June 7-11:30pm $25

The coconut wireless has relayed the message that Benji Fowler has just returned to his mother country Australia to kickstart a new musical project, Benji and the Saltwater Sound System. After a year of village living in remote Solomon Islands the musical excursionist will be importing some new material for Australian audiences. Fingers crossed that the islander grit found in Benji’s rice bag swag of the fresh musical produce clears customs

Benji and the Saltwater Sound System draws upon Benji’s recent immersion in islander flavours fused with the reggae and African roots of its members past musical projects to create hypnotic soundscapes underpinned by painfully catchy melodies. Add to this the beautifully poignant lyrics that Benji has become known for and you can’t help but expect something special from this new line-up.

The artists in Benji and the Saltwater Sound System have had the honor of playing at a number of acclaimed festivals, venues and events. These include Woodford, the National Folk Festival, Corinbank, the Dreaming Festival, Summer Rhythm, Sydney Blues Festival, and Illawarra Folk Festival just to name a few.
